Last week The Plumbing and Electrical Doctor presented a cheque for over $6700 to child road safety charity, Little Blue Dinosaur, as a result of a recent fundraising night that was held at Cooks Hill Surf Club. The charity auction, which was held on July 15, was organised by The Plumbing and Electrical Doctor to generate donations for the family run organisation, while also creating awareness within the trades community. “Sometimes as a society we can become casual when it comes to road safety and it isn’t until it happens to someone close to you that it really hits home,” Joe Evers, The Plumbing and Electrical Doctor owner. Representatives from Little Blue Dinosaur, Michelle and David McLaughlin, attended the charity night, where David took on the successful role of auctioning off a range of items including beauty products, surfboards racks, and various plumbing supplies. Mrs McLaughlin, “Children are our most vulnerable road user group and we can all play our part to keep them safe around roadways. In particular, children under 10 have a number of limitations that reduce their ability to make safe choices when they interact with roads and driveways" “By improving our roadway infrastructure and educating the community about road safety, we can collectively work towards zero fatalities and injuries on our roads” “The generous support of The Plumbing and Electrical Doctor will help spread the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation's child road safety campaign further throughout the Hunter region over the upcoming summer school holidays." Organisers of the event, Daniel Scurr and Sarah O’Malley, were over the moon with the response, with over 60 team members, suppliers and supporters in attendance. “I came away from the night feeling inspired and grateful to be part of a team that came together so well and made it a such a joyful occasion given the serious nature of the cause,” Ms. O’Malley. Mr. Evers, proud of such a successful event and to be representing an important cause has concluded, “What we have found out from this event is that we have a passionate team who really are part of the local community. If we can support worthy causes such as Little Blue Dinosaur by holding nights like this, then I feel a level of responsibility to do so”. The Plumbing and Electrical Doctor are planning to make the charity dinner a regular event in the company’s calendar.
